The weight of the amanah
Why the Qur’an frames authority as a burden before it frames it as an honour, and why the Companions who were best qualified to lead were the most afraid to ask for it.
“If I ruled the world,
I’d end wars, fight poverty, and fix the mess our leaders created.”
All of us are weary with the state of the world.
Many of us vote. We boycott. We raise awareness, we give sadaqah, we pour our hearts out in du’a. And still the news arrives every morning heavier than it did the day before.
So we tell ourselves the same quiet sentence: if only I had the power. If only the decision sat with me.
Every cycle. And the ballot never quite reaches the thing that is broken.
We read labels and change habits, and we are right to. It is still not leadership.
Sadaqah goes out. It treats the wound. It does not decide who gets wounded.
The most powerful thing we own. And du’a was never meant to replace responsibility.
Not a lecture on politics. A day on how the Prophet ﷺ carried responsibility, and how that translates to the authority you already hold.
