Shaykh Ammar AlShukry hails from Sudan via Queens New York. Dual Bachelors in Islamic Studies and Marketing. A Director at AlMaghrib and Imam at Clear Lake Islamic Center. He is the author of the poetry collection “What the Pen Wrote: The Collected Poems of Ammar AlShukry” and his upcoming course A Mindful Salah is scheduled for early 2022 in sha Allah.

Shaykh Abu Eesa Niamatullah is original, addictive and with an unparalleled (and extremely dark!) sense of humour, Shaykh Abu Eesa (universally known as “AE”) combines experience, ‘ilm and a modern understanding and application which is unique and utterly relevant. Don’t be fooled by his jocular exterior – it is unsurprising just how treasured he is to our student body as one of our most passionate and knowledgeable senior instructors.

Born in London, England, he tracks his roots to the Naser Kheil tribe of the North West Frontier in Pakistan. He studied both Pharmacy at the University of Manchester, then Anthropology, and then later studied Arabic, Islamic Law and Qur’an with its memorisation from scholars in a diverse array of locations in the East and West. His time spent with many different teachers has led to a real variety of experiences and depth in the Islamic Sciences which are so famously expressed in Shaykh AE’s multi-dimensional da’wah and teachings.

Shaykh Abu Eesa previously served as the Resident Scholar of Cheadle Masjid in South Manchester, yet still continues to teach Fiqh weekly there as part of our onsite + online initiative known as “Logical Progression.” He was the previous Resident Scholar of the 1st Ethical Charitable Trust in Bolton, an organisation dedicated to civic engagement and Islamic legal and financial education; he was the original founder of ‘Prophetic Guidance’ (PG) and still remains as the main teacher presenting PG’s classes and events such as the famous “Last Testament” play; his popular commentary to ‘al-Adab al-Mufrad’ class is still aired today on Islamic TV channels. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Al-Qalam Sharī‘ah Panel, the UK’s premier fatwa body for legal and financial concerns.

Shaykh Waleed Basyouni, PhD, is the President of AlMaghrib Institute and Head of our Islamic Theology and Ethics Department. Students know him well for his sincere care for their well-being and progress in study. We see Shaykh Waleed as not just our senior scholar, but one of the most important leaders of the da‘wah in the West.

He graduated with a Bachelor in Islamic Sciences from Al-Imam Muhammad University (KSA), did his Master’s in Islamic Theology, World Religions and Modern Religious Sects from Al-Imam Muhammad University, and achieved a Doctorate in Theology from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Indiana.

Shaykh Waleed Basyouni has made numerous appearances in media around the world including CNN, Islam Channel, and Al-Huda Channel. He is an Imām, and active member of a number of Islamic organizations and Islamic Societies such as NAIF, and is a Director of the Texas Da‘wah Convention. Shaykh Waleed also gives fatwa as a member of the American Muslim Jurists Association (AMJA).

Ustadha Taimiyyah Zubair is an established teacher of Quran with a focus on Tafsir and Word Analysis. She is a respected and inspirational role model, teaching both globally and in her community for more than a decade.

Ustadha Taimiyyah studied under her parents and scholars, Dr. Idrees Zubair and Dr. Farhat Hashmi (founders of Al Huda International). She has been a student and teacher, at Al Huda Institute, of various Islamic Sciences including Arabic Grammar, Hadith and Fiqh.

Currently, Ustadha Taimiyyah is completing her Humanities degree with a President’s Entrance Scholarship at the University of Waterloo.

Dr. Omar Suleiman is the President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research and a professor of Islamic Studies at Southern Methodist University. He’s also the resident scholar of the Valley Ranch Islamic Center, and Co-Chair of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square, a multi-faith alliance for peace and justice.

Originally from New Orleans, LA, he began his journey of traditional Islamic learning in the year 2000 and has spent years studying in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Malaysia, etc. Upon becoming certified in various traditional sciences, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic law, a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, a Master’s degree in Islamic Finance, a Master’s Degree in Political History, and is in the process of completing his PhD from the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Islamic Thought and Civilization.

His career started in his hometown of New Orleans where he served as the Imam of the Jefferson Muslim Association in New Orleans for 6 years and directed the ICNA Relief “Muslims for Humanity” Hurricane Katrina Relief effort. It was in this time that he was noted on a national level as being a strong advocate of community service, interfaith dialogue, and social justice. He co-founded the East Jefferson Interfaith Clergy Association and was awarded for his outstanding civic achievement by the Mayor and City Council of New Orleans in 2010.

He then moved to Dallas and became the Resident Scholar of the Valley Ranch Islamic Center in 2013 and more recently, Co-Chair of Faith Forward Dallas at Thanks-Giving Square. In Dallas, he has been a noted leader and voice for peace, and has partaken as a representative of the Muslim Community in many city functions. He has since been a guest at various national functions to share his experiences in community building.

Shaykh Omar most recently founded the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research which is a think tank that focuses on instilling conviction based on Islamic texts, and producing contribution. He also founded M.U.H.S.E.N (Muslims Understanding and Helping Special Education Needs), a nonprofit umbrella organization serving the community to establish a more inclusive “Special Friendly” environment for our Brothers & Sisters of all Disabilities.

Shaykh Omar has taught Islamic Studies at the university level since 2008. As a valued AlMaghrib instructor, Shaykh Omar developed one of the most successful seminars “Behind the Scenes: An In-Depth Study of the Spiritual Practices of the Best Generations”. He also is one of the main features at our annual conferences and retreats: IlmFest and IlmSummit.

In media, he’s one of the creators of the internationally acclaimed “Inspiration Series” which has reached millions of Muslims and Non Muslims through YouTube and Islamic Television stations worldwide. He’s also known for his series on Quran weekly as well as his contributions to Hadith of the Day.

Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed is known for her gift of captivating an entire audience with her thoughts and insightful reflections. She is a Psychology graduate, and attained her Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

As a skilled creative writer, her literature speaks from the heart and is felt by millions around the world. After completing her graduate work, she taught Islamic Studies and served as a youth coordinator. Currently she’s a writer for the Huffington Post, a highly sought-after international speaker, and author who focuses most of her work on spiritual and personal development. She is well known for her book available worldwide, Reclaim Your Heart: Personal Insights on Breaking Free From Life’s Shackles.

Her ability to relate all intervals of life to one’s relationship with the Creator is a remedy for those seeking comfort and solace in this dunya. She has the honour of being AlMaghrib Institute’s first female instructor.

Ustadha Sarah Sultan is a licensed professional counselor, having obtained a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and has practiced therapy for nearly 10 years.

She is both a research fellow at Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, a teacher at Mishkah University, and one of the newest instructors here at AlMaghrib.

With her commitment to her work and fascination with the intersections between Islamic spirituality, psychology, and counseling, Ustadha Sarah brings a unique insight into a field of knowledge absolutely critical for the modern Muslim community

Shaykh Majed Mahmoud strives to make Islam digestible and beloved to people of all ages.

A shining example of the student-to-teacher story, He’s the first graduate of AlMaghrib to become one of its instructors, having also earned a bachelors degree in Islamic Jurisprudence & Legal Theory from Al-Madinah International University, as well as a bachelor in mechanical engineering and a master in business administration and has since traveled worldwide, lecturing about different aspects of Islam, from prophetic stories to Islamic personal conduct.

Residing in the U.S with his wife and children, Shaykh Majed is an engineer by profession, whilst also teaching classes year-round in his community on topics such as the seerah, the lives of the khulafa, and reasons for revelation (Asbab an Nuzul).

Known for his heart-touching reminders, captivating storytelling telling style, Shaykh Majed is a beloved instructor in the global AlMaghrib community.

Dr Omar Husain is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (supervised by Michael Moyer) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, on a tennis scholarship, and graduated with a degree in Information Sciences. He then travelled to Toronto, Canada where he studied the Arabic language and began studying the Islamic sciences. After returning to the United States he worked as a business analyst. During this time, he was blessed to complete his memorization of the Quran. He then travelled to Cairo, Egypt, after being accepted to the esteemed Al-Azhar University, the oldest institute of Islamic learning in the world, where he graduated from the College of Islamic studies and Arabic. He actively participates in youth initiatives, and university Muslim Student Associations study circles, as well as delivering khutbas (sermons), lectures, and conducting classes to a broad audience. He has translated the masterpiece of Imam Jalāl ad-Dīn Suyūṭī, Al-Itqān Fī U’lūm al-Qur’ān “Towards Perfecting the Qur’ānic Sciences.” As learning is never done, he is also currently a Doctoral candidate in counselor education at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Shaykh Kamal El Mekki has been dubbed the Black Belt of Da‘wah. With decades of experience in the Da‘wah scene, Shaykh Kamal combines his ground-breaking teaching style with his own dash of humor, certain to leave students feel at ease & entertained, but above all skilled and empowered.

Shaykh Kamal is known best for his workshop “How to Give Shahadah in 10 Minutes”, a 6-hour workshop designed to empower MSAs and Dawah organizations in the art of Da‘wah. His lectures and online videos (targeting contemporary challenges) have also gained popular fame and positive impact among Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Educated at the hands of numerous prominent Islamic scholars from across the world, Shaykh Kamal also has dynamic experience in the secular world.

Shaykh Mohammed Faqih is the doctor of etiquettes and mannerisms. His knowledge is impeccable. His chain in the Qur’ān only 28 shy of the Prophet, on whom be peace. His demeanour utterly disarming. His style in fashion and stride in walk makes you say, “That man is fit to be president.”

Shaykh Mohammed is completely different class. He melts the hearts with lessons in tazkiyah, akhlāq, self-discovery and psychology, and above all great humility which befits a true scholar.

Shaykh Mohammed traces his roots back to the ancient city of Harar in the Horn of Africa. Originally from Yemen, his forefathers immigrated to East Africa and played a central role in the Islamic history of the region.

He completed a B.A. in Islamic Studies from the Institute of Islamic and Arabic Sciences in America in Fairfax, VA, and graduated in Qur’an Memorization and Recitation from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He was the Imam at the Islamic Community Center of Laurel in Laurel, MD and at the Islamic Center of San Diego in San Diego, CA.

He currently serves as Imam at the Islamic Institute of Orange County, otherwise known as Masjid Omar AlFarouk.

Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda is the Founder and President of Qalam. He is a faculty member at the Qalam Seminary where he teaches Sahih Bukhari, advanced Tafsir, Usul, Fiqh, Aqidah, and Balaghah. He has completed an extensive study of the life of the Prophet ﷺ in the Seerah Podcast. He annually teaches the Qur’an Intensive and Seerah Intensive, and leads groups on the Seerah Umrah tour, as well as to Masjid Al-Aqsa.

Born and raised in Dallas, he currently resides there with his wife and three children. He memorized the Qur’an in Karachi at an early age. After high school, he returned to Karachi to study the Islamic sciences full-time at Jamia Binoria. He graduated from the rigorous ‘alim program in 2001 at the top of his class. He then completed specializations in Fiqh and Tafsir. He also attained a B.A. and M.A. in Arabic from Karachi University while completing a Masters in Islamic Studies from the University of Sindh. After returning home, he taught at the local university and Islamic schools, and served as an imam in the Dallas area.

Shaykh Saad Tasleem, born and raised in the USA, is highly in tune with today’s youth struggles and pressures, while grounded with education in traditional Islamic Sciences.

In his early years, Shaykh Saad tasted the alternative life as the lead singer of a punk rock band. Moving on from that lifestyle, Shaykh Saad still skateboards, snowboards, and rocks his Converse sneakers. After studying Art History, Modern Art, Graphic Design, and Psychology at the University of Maryland, he decided to take his life in a brand new direction.

Shaykh Saad started Islamic education at IIASA in Fairfax, VA. He then went on to study at the Islamic University of Madinah where he dedicated himself to the study of Islamic Sciences. He graduated with a Bachelor’s from the Faculty of Islamic Law, University of Madinah.

Today, Shaykh Saad dedicates his teaching to Muslim youth learning to balance their Western lifestyles with Islamic values. At AlMaghrib, he has developed seminars like Fiqh of Chillin’: Entertainment & Recreation in Islam, Trends: Fiqh of Fashion & Clothing, and Deception: Study of Shaytan. His primary message is to empower Muslim youth to be comfortable with their own personal identities as part of Western society.

Shaykh Navaid Aziz is AlMaghrib’s Director of Public Relations and Instructor dedicated to reviving the Muslim mindset on spirituality, morality, education, and mutual respect.

Shaykh Navaid completed an Associate’s degree in Commerce and Social Sciences before heading to the illustrious Islamic University of Madinah. He went on to complete a diploma in the Arabic language as well as a Bachelor’s in Islamic Law, with a specialization in Fiqh and Usul Al-Fiqh.

Since then, Shaykh Navaid established himself as a highly sought after global lecturer and speaker. He is a passionate advocate for Muslim youth education and integration with a proven track record over the years. He is currently the Director of Religious and Social Services for the Islamic Information Society of Calgary, volunteered as Islamic Editor for Little Explorers and Recess Kids magazines, serves as a youth and family counsellor, volunteered as chaplain at S.A.I.T, and became the first ever Muslim chaplain with the Calgary Police Services in 2015. His work includes helping in the mitigation of criminal radicalization and implementing civic engagement opportunities for youth.

Navaid’s free time is spent exploring local eateries, traveling, and hiking the Canadian Rockies. He is also known to enjoy playing basketball and hosting game nights—with Monopoly and Cranium being his favourites.

Dr. Zohair’s journey with us began more than 15 years ago as a dedicated student in Toronto.

He was one of those early risers, grabbing the front-row seat every Saturday morning, eager to soak up every ounce of knowledge.

Dr. Zohair is living in Brisbane, Australia, balancing life as a medical doctor and a volunteer Imam.

Over the past 18 years, he’s studied Islamic sciences under top scholars worldwide, earned certifications in ʿaqīdah (theology) and hadith (prophetic narrations), and is currently pursuing his PhD in Islamic Theology. He has published on Islamic theology, Islamic spirituality, Islamic psychology and mental health.
