The Seerah of The Prophet ﷺ

In this full day of powerful talks and reminders, each of our instructors will take you back to the Seerah, focusing on a different year in the life of the Prophet ﷺ and the lessons we can take from it today!

From the first call of Islam, to the years of struggle and strife, battles, moments of joy and grief.

All the highs and lows in the greatest dawah, and what we can learn from them today to carry the legacy of Islam forward!

Shaykh Suleiman Hani is the Director of Academic Affairs at AlMaghrib Institute, a research scholar for Yaqeen Institute, and a resident scholar in Michigan. At the age of 14, Suleiman completed a 10-month Qur’an memorization program and began his intensive studies under numerous scholars, earning dozens of traditional religious certifications in the process. He later earned a master’s degree from the University of Jordan’s College of Shari’ah, ranking first in his class, and a master’s degree from Harvard University, where he studied religions, philosophy, political science, and psychology.

Shaykh Yaser Birjas is the Head of our Islamic Law and Theory Department. Often described as the fatherly figure by students, Shaykh Yaser exudes a calm, gentle and caring demeanour that welcomes students to ask questions with awe and respect.

Shaykh Yaser started his career in Electronic Engineering in the UAE, then in Madinah where he graduated as class Valedictorian with the highest honors from the Islamic University of Madinah’s College of Shari’ah (Fiqh and Usul) in 1996. He learned from various highly respected scholars such as Shaykh Mohammed Amin Al-Shanqiti and Shaykh Al-‘Uthaymin.

Ustadha Yasmin Mogahed is known for her gift of captivating an entire audience with her thoughts and insightful reflections. She is a Psychology graduate, and attained her Masters in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

As a skilled creative writer, her literature speaks from the heart and is felt by millions around the world. After completing her graduate work, she taught Islamic Studies and served as a youth coordinator. Currently she’s a writer for the Huffington Post, a highly sought-after international speaker, and author who focuses most of her work on spiritual and personal development. She is well known for her book available worldwide, Reclaim Your Heart: Personal Insights on Breaking Free From Life’s Shackles.

Her ability to relate all intervals of life to one’s relationship with the Creator is a remedy for those seeking comfort and solace in this dunya. She has the honour of being AlMaghrib Institute’s first female instructor.
Shaykh Kamal is known best for his workshop “How to Give Shahadah in 10 Minutes”, a 6-hour workshop designed to empower MSAs and Dawah organizations in the art of Da‘wah. His lectures and online videos (targeting contemporary challenges) have also gained popular fame and positive impact among Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Educated at the hands of numerous prominent Islamic scholars from across the world, Shaykh Kamal also has dynamic experience in the secular world.

Dr. Farhan Abdul Azeez was born and raised in Michigan. He has studied Arabic and Tajweed in Egypt, and Arabic and Islamic Studies with local institutes and teachers in the US.

Farhan completed his undergraduate and medical studies at Michigan State University, where he later served as Clinical Faculty to the College of Osteopathic Medicine. He currently is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician.

Due to his love of cats, some of his friends have dubbed him “Abu Hurairah”.

Ustadha Sarah Sultan is a licensed professional counselor, having obtained a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and has practiced therapy for nearly 10 years.

She is both a research fellow at Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research, a teacher at Mishkah University, and one of the newest instructors here at AlMaghrib.

With her commitment to her work and fascination with the intersections between Islamic spirituality, psychology, and counseling, Ustadha Sarah brings a unique insight into a field of knowledge absolutely critical for the modern Muslim community.

While in college, Shaykh Omar was accepted as a scholarship student at the Islamic University of Madinah. He completed an Associates Degree in the Arabic language and a Bachelor’s Degree from the College of Shariah, graduating with the highest honors from the faculty of Islamic Law. While in Madinah, he also attended classes at the Prophet’s mosque studying the various Islamic sciences. He recently moved back to Chicago where he resides with his family. He currently serves as the full time youth director at the Islamic Center of Naperville.

Majed Mahmoud is one of the leading activists of Da‘wah in his community. With his heart-touching reminders and soft approach, Majed makes Islam digestible and beloved to people of all ages.

Majed is a shining example for students seeking growth and development within Islamic Studies. He’s the first graduate of AlMaghrib Institute to become one of its instructors, performing exceptionally in over 50 seminars including theology, Islamic jurisprudence, and Quranic Sciences. As Majed travels worldwide lecturing about different aspects of Islam, he works full-time as a mechanical engineer.

He has completed Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Jurisprudence & Legal Theory from Al-Madinah International University. He also has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wayne State University.

Shaykh Saad Tasleem, born and raised in the USA, is highly in tune with today’s youth struggles and pressures, while grounded with education in traditional Islamic Sciences.

In his early years, Shaykh Saad tasted the alternative life as the lead singer of a punk rock band. Moving on from that lifestyle, Shaykh Saad still skateboards, snowboards, and rocks his Converse sneakers. After studying Art History, Modern Art, Graphic Design, and Psychology at the University of Maryland, he decided to take his life in a brand new direction.

Shaykh Saad started Islamic education at IIASA in Fairfax, VA. He then went on to study at the Islamic University of Madinah where he dedicated himself to the study of Islamic Sciences. He graduated with a Bachelor’s from the Faculty of Islamic Law, University of Madinah.

Today, Shaykh Saad dedicates his teaching to Muslim youth learning to balance their Western lifestyles with Islamic values. At AlMaghrib, he has developed seminars like Fiqh of Chillin’: Entertainment & Recreation in Islam, Trends: Fiqh of Fashion & Clothing, and Deception: Study of Shaytan. His primary message is to empower Muslim youth to be comfortable with their own personal identities as part of Western society.

Omar Husain is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (supervised by Michael Moyer) and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. He attended the University of Illinois at Chicago, on a tennis scholarship, and graduated with a degree in Information Sciences. He then travelled to Toronto, Canada where he studied the Arabic language and began studying the Islamic sciences. After returning to the United States he worked as a business analyst. During this time, he was blessed to complete his memorization of the Quran. He then travelled to Cairo, Egypt, after being accepted to the esteemed Al-Azhar University, the oldest institute of Islamic learning in the world, where he graduated from the College of Islamic studies and Arabic. He actively participates in youth initiatives, and university Muslim Student Associations study circles, as well as delivering khutbas (sermons), lectures, and conducting classes to a broad audience. He has translated the masterpiece of Imam Jalāl ad-Dīn Suyūṭī, Al-Itqān Fī U’lūm al-Qur’ān “Towards Perfecting the Qur’ānic Sciences.” As learning is never done, he is also currently a Doctoral candidate in counselor education at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Shaykh AbdulBary Yahya is known as the most laid back, easy-going instructor in the AlMaghrib lineup. He is often used as the example for patience at its best, and is famous for his personal funny experiences that he uses wittingly to teach and help understand advanced Islamic concepts.

Born in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, Shaykh AbdulBary immigrated to the U.S. with his family. He grew up in Seattle, WA and began his studies at the Islamic University of Madinah. It was at the University that he befriended Muhammad Alshareef, Founder of AlMaghrib Institute, as they sat next to each other in the first year of their studies. After graduating from the Islamic University of Madinah’s College of Shari’ah, AbdulBary Yahya returned to Vietnam and Cambodia and became a teacher and director of the Umm al-Qura Charity Organization in Vietnam.

He is currently the Imam of Masjid Jaamiul Muslimeen in Seattle, WA. He also holds the positions of President of the Cham Refugee Community and Vice-President of the Islamic Center of Washington State.Farhan completed his undergraduate and medical studies at Michigan State University, where he later served as Clinical Faculty to the College of Osteopathic Medicine. He currently is a practicing Emergency Medicine physician.

Shaykh Kamal El Mekki has been dubbed the Black Belt of Da‘wah. With decades of experience in the Da‘wah scene, Shaykh Kamal combines his ground-breaking teaching style with his own dash of humor, certain to leave students feel at ease & entertained, but above all skilled and empowered.
