History
Qabeelat Wedad came into existence in early 2005 after an Almaghrib promotional tour around norcal. The name "Wedad" gained majority votes by the local volunteers after being suggested by Shaykh Muhammad Faqih. Other suggestions were also made by instructors taking part in the promotional tour but only one could win! The root-meaning of the word "Wedad" is love or compassion. Hence, Wedad came to be known as the Qabeelah that Loves knowledge.
Activities
Besides offering double-weekend accredited Almaghrib seminars, Qabeelat Wedad actively participates in helping the community with various projects. Some of these activities include gardening projects for the local Masaajid and libraries, organizing fun and educational activities for the Muslim youth, co-sponsoring local Dawah activities and food drives for the needy.
Scholarships
Qabeelat Wedad has a unique scholarship program. The Wedad HELP (Help Educate Leadership Program) is a committee of dedicated volunteers that raises funds throughout the year and puts out a scholarship packet before each class. The applications received by a set deadline are carefully reviewed and evaluated. Each candidates name and personal information is kept from the evaluation committee for completely unbiased results. Alhamdulilah the Wedad HELP committee has awarded over $2000 to local students that lack financial means but demonstrate their thirst for knowledge.
