Qabeelat Durbah - New Brunswick, New Jersey
Who were oblivious to this destiny's plans
It started in a mosque that opened its doors
The fulfillment of a thirst was its lure
What it will be, only Allah knows
Durbah will shatter the standards as it grows
Qabeelat Durbah was founded by 2 Muslim Student Association members who attended the MSA East Zone Conference in the Spring of 2004. They were inspired by Muhammad Alshareef his endeavors to begin an Institute. This motivation prompted the suggestion that a Qabeelah (tribe) be established in New Jersey. The first class ever to be held in New Jersey was Fiqh ad Da'wah taught by Ustaadh Muhammad AlShareef in 2003. The class took place in the basement of the Muslim Center of Middlesex County in Piscataway/New Brunswick, one of the first mosques to hold an AlMaghrib seminar as a location.
Since its inception as a Qabeelah, Durbah students have continuously worked hard to cultivate the knowledge learned at AlMaghrib seminars into our communities. Our seminars have been sold out numerous times; Durbah was one of the first Qabeelahs to hold a record for most-students in a seminar. Durbah held this record for over a year. Along with holding exceptional and professional seminars for the New Jersey community, Qabeelat Durbah has given back to the community as well. Our Social Service Projects have included: raising money for victims of the Tsunami in South East Asia, visiting the elderly in hospitals, holding a Cell Phone Drive for Victims of Domestic Violence, participating in the Walk for Breast Cancer, organizing a mass donation collection to help Baby Aariz, and much more.
Over the years Qabeelat Durbah has proven itself as a major asset to the AlMaghrib community. Our contributions include (but are not limited to):
Liwaa' competition: members of Qabeelat Durbah were the first to suggest a tribal competition in which the coveted award is the Liwaa' or flag. Although the Liwaa' is yet to come to it's rightful owners, Qabeelat Durbah, we are happy to lend it to other Qabeelats for the moment.
Academic Scholarships: Durbah was one of the first Qabeelats to offer academic scholarships to its students. Those who excelled in past seminar exams had the opportunity to be eligible for full scholarships for upcoming seminars.
Post Seminar Jeopardy Game: This sought-after game was designed by Durbah students to help in post-seminar exam review. Qabeelat Durbah has used this for our own review sessions and other Qabeelahs have based their own reviews on this popular game.
Family Discount Flyer: Durbah members have been providing their artistic talents to the AlMaghrib community for years now. One of our newest contributions include the 'Family Discount Flyer' and an easy-to-use modern 'Registration Form' that can be used at promotional events.
Sponsored Scholarships: Qabeelat Durbah is always striving for excellence; one of our main goals is to assist our student's pre seminar, at the seminar, and post seminar. Along with the academic scholarships that the Qabeelat specifically provides, Qabeelat Durbah is one of the only Qabeelahs that has privately funded scholarships solely for Durbah students. Individuals have set-up these scholarships to run each seminar to assist students in their journey as students of knowledge.
Exam Department: Our one of a kind Exam Department has inculcated numerous & creative ideas to motivate students to take the exam and to do well. Durbah's exam department has consistently reminded students of the importance and necessity of the exam; these same 'urgent e-mails' have been used by other Qabeelahs as well to help their own students. The Exam Department has also for the first time offered exams in multiple locations; making it easier for students to take the exam no matter what location or situation they are in.
Finance Department: Durbah's meticulous and experienced finance department is always on top of the budget and suggesting new ways to gain Qabeelat revenue. At each Durbah seminar, the finance department gives a Cash Flow Report Presentation. This Presentation is now being used by other Qabeelah to help their finance groups as well.
Durbah has strived and will continue to strive to seek the pleasure of Allah. May He bless our community and our students to spread the knowledge that has been given to us as a trust and may we gain the highest levels of Jannah. Ameen.
