IlmWeek: Seeds of Scholarship coming to London on December 28 – January 1

When I imagine the days of old when students scurried to their nearby study circle, book and pen in hand, taught by some of the most renowned scholars of their time and locale, I often longed to know what that felt like. The desire to be amongst the blessing of Angels and the purity of intentions day in and day out deepens the more it is envisioned. “O Allah, how I long for just a taste!”

Taste, O Student of Knowledge!

AlMaghrib Institute introduces with great zeal its latest initiative, IlmWeek: Seeds of Scholarship, aimed at lifting you to a higher level of intensive learning. Spend five full consecutive days with highly-esteemed Shuyookh teaching Islamic Sciences at an even more advanced level. Such illuminating topics include:

The Reality of the Fitrah and Its Implications in Islam by Shaykh Yasir Qadhi

One of the hallmarks of Orthodox Sunni Islam is its belief in an innate nature that Allah has placed in every person, known as the 'fitra'. In a series of lectures, Sh. Yasir Qadhi will explore the basis for this belief, and what a belief in the fitra leads to. Issues such as the proof for the existence of God, morality, ethics, and human conscience between Sunni Islam and other groups of Islam will be discussed

An Explanation of Usool as-Sunnah of Imam Ahmad by Shaykh Waleed Basyouni

Introduction to the Legal Maxims of Fiqh (Qawa’id al-Fiqhiya) by Shaykh Ahsan Hanif

Often when people are faced with a legal (shar'i) dilemma, such as forgetting the number of rak'ahs they have prayed, whether they have wudhu or not and countless other issues, they are unaware of what to do. At the same time people are also amazed at how scholars have the ability to remember and recall thousands of rulings from the top of their heads.

During this course, you will be offered a glimpse into the Islamic science which can help you deal with all your fiqhi issues and allow you to understand how scholars group hundreds of rulings together. You will insha Allah study the 5 universal maxims of fiqh, giving you a glimpse as to how each one can be applied in a practical way using case based studies.

Think of it like road signs; nice and simple signs which tell you what you can and can't do whilst driving. However, each ruling is explained in immense detail in the highway code. Likewise, the 'road signs' for fiqh are found via the legal maxims of fiqh.

An Explanation of a Work of Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali by Shaykh Abu Eesa Niamatullah

Shaykh Abu Eesa will be explaining the Mahajjah, otherwise known as Im?m Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali’s commentary to the great had?th of Im?m al-Bukh?ri, where Abu Hurayrah (radhy All?hu ‘anhu) narrates that the Prophet (sallall?hu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Your actions alone will not save any of you.” They asked, “O Messenger of Allah, not even you?” He replied, “Not even me, unless Allah were to envelop me in His mercy. Be firm, steadfast and balanced! Journey [to Allah] in the beginning of the day, the end of the day, and a portion of the latter part of the night. Moderation, moderation! Through this will you attain your goal!”

This is a hadath which covers not only the creed and methodology of Ahl’l-Sunnah, but also provides for us a guide to find our path in these times of confusion and temptation. This commentary will bring all the Islamic sciences together in the comprehensive fashion that we now recognise is the hallmark of teachers like Shaykh Abu Eesa.

“You guys will really like this. Believe me. Insha’Allah.” – Shaykh Abu Eesa Niamatullah

“… a day filled with learning…our minds rejuvenated but the knowledge exhausted our pen”

“In the days of the Salaf, students would trudge across spans of deserts and landscapes, risking their lives to acquire but one hadeeth. In our time, we are offered the whole nine yards.” Student, IlmWeek
