ILMINAR: AlMaghrib Institute & Islamic Relief

AlMaghrib Institute & Islamic Relief to Launch a Unique ONLINE Fundraising Effort for Gaza on Tuesday, Jan 13th
Free Sign-up: www.ilminar.com

As the world watches the grave events unfolding in the Gaza Strip, history is awaiting to document the actions humanity is about to take:

Shameful Inaction or Heroic Justice?

It is human nature to feel all kinds of intense emotions towards the atrocities in Gaza: anger, sorrow, shame, fear, sadness….yet history is filled with stories of these very emotions resulting in dangerously wrong courses of action. It is evident, then, that these natural feelings act as fog: blurring our hindsight and preventing us from seeing the big picture.

The question then is: in these trying times, how do we use hikmah (wisdom) instead of emotion when taking the right course of action for our Ummah?

Join us for a special Ilminar as we answer this very question and in co-operation with Islamic Relief launch a unique ONLINE fundraising effort for our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Be among those whom history documents as partakers of heroic justice, and above all, those who embodied the true message of Islam.

New PowerHouse Qabeelat is born...

1. They live in a town of 300 thousand, (about the size of windsor, Ontario, Canada).

2. About less then 1% of the Muslim students in Bradford have heard of Muhammad Alshareef, or AlMaghrib Institute. (We are talking about the potential students, not the general public here).

3. They have NEVER had an AlMaghrib promo in their city.

4. They have NEVER had an AlMaghrib instructor lead the jumu'ah prayer.

5. No other AlMaghrib-like institute exists in the area, or has conducted seminars there.

6. They had less then 2 months to prepare this farm town for AlMaghrib MEGA Qabeelah status.

7. Their first glimpse of AlMaghrib would require them to pay 97 pounds, about $200 USD.

8. I did not post even once in their Banu folder. The first time I started researching them was on the flight from London to Manchester on the Friday of the seminar.Halal drum roll please ....

Forget Obama, the real news is: BANU NORTH UK!!!THEIR FIRST SEMINAR: 287 SOLD OUT STUDENTS!!!!THEIR FIRST SEMINAR: NO ROOM TO SITTHEIR FIRST SEMINAR: BEAT EVERY SINGLE PREVIOUS FIRST SEMINAR RECORD, INCLUDING TORONTO, LONDON, NEW YORK ....and it's just the first weekend of their first seminar.

Ma sha Allah, I am soooo proud of my brothers and sisters in Bradford. I have to tell you a secret. I was walking late at night on Sunday with one of the London brothers, and I said, "Y'know, I love the city of Bradford more than I love the city of London." He said, "I know shaykh, it shows."Their Qabeelah folder is way at the bottom, but don't worry. You'll soon be seing it near the top. They've won my vote.Let's give a hearty AlMaghrib welcome to Qabeelat Mass.

AlMaghrib's New VP: Shaykh Waleed Basyouni

FROM Muhammad Alshareef:

Bismillah.

It gives me huge super duper awesome pleasure to announce the following. Alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah, that cool scuba diving shaykh is coming on board full time with AlMaghrib Institute as VICE PRESIDENT!

That's right. Alhamdulillah, Shaykh Waleed is going to be Vice President of AlMaghrib Institute, primarily in the USA operations, but because AlMaghrib is international, his leadership will be carried into both Canada and the UK.

For those of you who have had the good fortune of being taught by Shaykh Waleed, you will know that he brings in an air of creativity and passion to his teaching that is soooo refreshing and inspiring.

The awesome thing is that creativity and passion is now going to be felt on an AlMaghrib HQ level, Shaykh Waleed in charge.

Please welcome the coolest Shaykh who one the Quran competition vote (remember that one, the one I lost). ...

[Ok, here's a personal story. So like, when Shaykh Waleed was in Toronto, I just had to check how was it possible that he beat me in the Quran competition. We were going back/forth who would lead the Maghrib salah, and I told him, "Shaykh Waleed, you lead it cause I have to check you out." By Sunday, I was sitting with my mom and she said, "Muhammad, just face it, Shaykh Waleed reads better then you." Ok, admitted. Shaykh Waleed you rock! May Allah keep you and your family safe always, in this life and the next.]

Ok, one more thing. I insist with AlMaghrib workers that we have fun. Like, fun is our middle name. If you are working for AlMaghrib, you've gotta have fun or your fired. So, Shaykh Waleed is a natural to our AlMaghrib culture. He's is like one of the coolest people that you could call your Ustadh, and friend.

Mouthwatering New Course!

From Academic Dean of Affairs, ABU AMMAAR SH YASIR QADHI

Salaam Alaikum

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the newest course that AlMaghrib Institute will be teaching. It is a course that I've been wanting to do for quite a while now.

It is a fiqh course concentrating on two issues:
- the fiqh of food and drink
- the fiqh of clothing and dress.

These are the types of issues that we've been talking about for years and years, but rarely ever read or discuss in an academic manner. So the goal is to mention the evidences and the various opinions of the ulamaa and madhahib about these issues.

Of course, top on the list is the ever-juicy topic: the 'halaal' meat issue!! But loads of other issues as well, such as: what are the general guidelines for figuring out what is or is not permissible to eat and drink? What constitutes something that is najas? What if a food item has a small amount of najas in it? What are the evidences that the hijab clothing that is worn by our sisters is not just a 'cultural' item but an Islamic one? What is the verdict of wearing 'non-Islamic' clothes? How about body-piercing? For brothers?! And many, many more...

So, since I'm in the process of writing up the curriculum of the class, what I want from all of you is to suggest specific issues on your mind that this class should cover.

Keep in mind that this will be a ONE WEEKEND seminar, so I'll have to choose which issues are more of a priority than others. I aim to start teaching this course insha Allah from 2009.

Who wants to go first?

Yasir
