AlMaghrib's New VP: Shaykh Waleed Basyouni

FROM Muhammad Alshareef:

Bismillah.

It gives me huge super duper awesome pleasure to announce the following. Alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah, that cool scuba diving shaykh is coming on board full time with AlMaghrib Institute as VICE PRESIDENT!

That's right. Alhamdulillah, Shaykh Waleed is going to be Vice President of AlMaghrib Institute, primarily in the USA operations, but because AlMaghrib is international, his leadership will be carried into both Canada and the UK.

For those of you who have had the good fortune of being taught by Shaykh Waleed, you will know that he brings in an air of creativity and passion to his teaching that is soooo refreshing and inspiring.

The awesome thing is that creativity and passion is now going to be felt on an AlMaghrib HQ level, Shaykh Waleed in charge.

Please welcome the coolest Shaykh who one the Quran competition vote (remember that one, the one I lost). ...

[Ok, here's a personal story. So like, when Shaykh Waleed was in Toronto, I just had to check how was it possible that he beat me in the Quran competition. We were going back/forth who would lead the Maghrib salah, and I told him, "Shaykh Waleed, you lead it cause I have to check you out." By Sunday, I was sitting with my mom and she said, "Muhammad, just face it, Shaykh Waleed reads better then you." Ok, admitted. Shaykh Waleed you rock! May Allah keep you and your family safe always, in this life and the next.]

Ok, one more thing. I insist with AlMaghrib workers that we have fun. Like, fun is our middle name. If you are working for AlMaghrib, you've gotta have fun or your fired. So, Shaykh Waleed is a natural to our AlMaghrib culture. He's is like one of the coolest people that you could call your Ustadh, and friend.

Mouthwatering New Course!

From Academic Dean of Affairs, ABU AMMAAR SH YASIR QADHI

Salaam Alaikum

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the newest course that AlMaghrib Institute will be teaching. It is a course that I've been wanting to do for quite a while now.

It is a fiqh course concentrating on two issues:
- the fiqh of food and drink
- the fiqh of clothing and dress.

These are the types of issues that we've been talking about for years and years, but rarely ever read or discuss in an academic manner. So the goal is to mention the evidences and the various opinions of the ulamaa and madhahib about these issues.

Of course, top on the list is the ever-juicy topic: the 'halaal' meat issue!! But loads of other issues as well, such as: what are the general guidelines for figuring out what is or is not permissible to eat and drink? What constitutes something that is najas? What if a food item has a small amount of najas in it? What are the evidences that the hijab clothing that is worn by our sisters is not just a 'cultural' item but an Islamic one? What is the verdict of wearing 'non-Islamic' clothes? How about body-piercing? For brothers?! And many, many more...

So, since I'm in the process of writing up the curriculum of the class, what I want from all of you is to suggest specific issues on your mind that this class should cover.

Keep in mind that this will be a ONE WEEKEND seminar, so I'll have to choose which issues are more of a priority than others. I aim to start teaching this course insha Allah from 2009.

Who wants to go first?

Qabeelat Al-Shams: Biggest First Class EVER!

Bismillah

So alhamdulilah, here comes a new POWER HOUSE QABEELAT...

They have not only broken the record of highest attendance for a first class BUT got more students than the majority of the Qabeelahs in AlMaghrib history.

With the exception of Durbah's Fiqh of Love, they've schooled every single Qabeelah in America so far, walhamdulilah!

Next class in Al-Shams 1001 attendance, bi idhnillah....

(all of a sudden Majd looks like a lil' baby=p)

Ilm Summit 2008 APPLICATION

FROM Sh YASIR QADHI, Dean of Academic Affairs

Salaam Alaikum

Well, here it is guys:

http://almaghrib.org/summit/

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY:

1) Make sure your e-mail address is absolutely correct; this is the primary way we will be contacting you.

2) Do NOT apply if you do not seriously think you have the time or required enthusiasm to be a student at IlmSummit. In other words, don't have a 'Let's see if I can get in and if I do we'll figure out if I can go or not' attitude. To pull out after you've been accepted is a major waste of all of our times and resources; to be honest it shows you are not serious in the first place (obviously family emergencies, etc., that appear are a different matter).

3) Please DO apply if you have the time and energy but are worried about finances. We are accepting students based on merit, not money. Hence there are no empty blanks to fill out on this form regarding money issues. Once you get in, we will try our best to see if you can get a scholarship, either from us or other resources. But do realize that the maximum amount of scholarship we can give is around 30 to 40 % of the price; hence you're still looking at some amount.

4) There will be a waiting list of acceptees as well. If for some reason someone cannot make it and cancels, we will admit the next person on the list, and move down, until all 100 slots are filled up.

5) If a husband/spouse are applying together, PLEASE mention the spouse's name in the final slot; otherwise we have no way of pairing up acceptees.

6) There are NO requirements for tazkiya letters, but if you want to mention specific teachers/Imams that you've studied with you may mention them in the last section.

Any other questions regarding the process? Here's the place to post them...

DEADLINE: 30th MAY , 2008

Note: Please apply as soon as possible if you are serious about attending, as we will start sifting thru these applications on a weekly basis. We hope to announce the initial list within the first weeks of June, after which an immediate deposit amount will be required.

NEW: Dean of Academic Affairs!

From SH MUHAMMAD ALSHAREEF, Founder, AlMaghrib Institute

--

Bismillah was salatu was salamu 'ala Rasoolillaah

It is with immense happiness that myself and the entire staff of AlMaghrib Institute welcomes Sh.Yasir Qadhi to the administration side of AlMaghrib Institute.

Many of you have noticed that a lot of our focus is on the da'wah, getting people into the seminars, getting them to the exams ...

... but there are students who not only attend the exams, they do so with EXCELLENCE. And most of the time they don't get much recognition. Back to getting people for the next seminar.

A New Page in AlMaghrib History begins ...
A new era has begun with Sh.Yasir's appointment as Dean of Academic Affairs. Let's just call it: Power to the DEDICATED student!! Or how about: "The Deen's List"

As many of you have witnessed on the other thread, already Sh.Yasir is getting busy with his brainchild 2 week 'Ilm mastery retreat. It's a retreat dedicated to the DEDICATED students, by invitation and application only. You can read about it on the other thread.

... and that's just the beginning, in sha Allah.

Please welcome AlMaghrib's own Sh.Yasir Qadhi in his new position: Dean of Academic Affairs. Power to the Dedicated students! Let's see you on the Deen's List.
