Mouthwatering New Course!

From Academic Dean of Affairs, ABU AMMAAR SH YASIR QADHI

Salaam Alaikum

It gives me immense pleasure to announce the newest course that AlMaghrib Institute will be teaching. It is a course that I've been wanting to do for quite a while now.

It is a fiqh course concentrating on two issues:
- the fiqh of food and drink
- the fiqh of clothing and dress.

These are the types of issues that we've been talking about for years and years, but rarely ever read or discuss in an academic manner. So the goal is to mention the evidences and the various opinions of the ulamaa and madhahib about these issues.

Of course, top on the list is the ever-juicy topic: the 'halaal' meat issue!! But loads of other issues as well, such as: what are the general guidelines for figuring out what is or is not permissible to eat and drink? What constitutes something that is najas? What if a food item has a small amount of najas in it? What are the evidences that the hijab clothing that is worn by our sisters is not just a 'cultural' item but an Islamic one? What is the verdict of wearing 'non-Islamic' clothes? How about body-piercing? For brothers?! And many, many more...

So, since I'm in the process of writing up the curriculum of the class, what I want from all of you is to suggest specific issues on your mind that this class should cover.

Keep in mind that this will be a ONE WEEKEND seminar, so I'll have to choose which issues are more of a priority than others. I aim to start teaching this course insha Allah from 2009.

Who wants to go first?

Yasir
